Keystone Ice Castle Engagement

My obsession began a few months ago when I first saw the Dillon Ice Castle in a Facebook post. I knew immediately that I had to do everything in my power to do a shoot there. With Natasha and Doug coming from Glenwood Springs and us being located in Boulder County, Dillon ended up being the perfect halfway point to meet for their ice castle engagement session.

If you haven’t yet gone to visit the castle yet, we highly recommend that you make plans to do so. From the outside, it looks like a water main burst in the middle of a baseball field and froze instantaneously. But once you pass through the entrance, the amazing architecture will take your breath away. With multiple ice “rooms,” slides, windows, and a throne, this spot feels like it’s straight out of a George R. R. Martin novel.

Though we could only spend a couple of hours in the ice castle, we would have been more than happy to spend the entire day. Of course, Jesse and I were a little more bundled up than Natasha and Doug, so they may have had a different opinion.

After we wrapped our shoot, we made a short jaunt down to the shores of the Dillon Reservoir for a few photos incorporating Doug’s fire bunker gear and proving, once again, that Colorado might be one of the best places in the world to be a photographer.

At the end of the day, this ice castle engagement went down as one of our all-time favorite Alt Sessions because of the uniqueness of the location and also the level of fun that was had by all. Natasha and Doug, thank you so much for taking the time to drive all the way from Glenwood Springs and we can’t wait for your wedding in June!
