Denver Botanic Gardens Engagement

Heather and Chris’s Denver Botanic Gardens engagement session almost didn’t happen. In fact, it wasn’t supposed to be a Botanic Gardens engagement session at all!

Originally, we talked about doing something in December of last year. But with a few of the couple’s requests, it made more sense to wait until the spring. So we put a date on the calendar, gathered the necessary permissions, booked hair and makeup, and had a plan ready to go.

Then two days before their session, Jesse and I were in Zion (check out Jaclyn & Matt’s post-wedding session!) watching the weather. I have a personal rule not to look at the weather until two days before a wedding or photo session. Colorado’s weather is far too unpredictable and I’d rather have two days than two weeks of weather worries. Well, as luck would have it, two days out, a GIANT storm system was making its way toward Estes Park. With lightning. We’ll work in just about any weather, but holding a metal pole with electronic equipment at the end of it is a hard pass in my book. Alas, we had to make the difficult decision to reschedule.

Once Jesse and I got home from Utah, Heather and I reconvened to come up with a contingency plan. Heather suggested the Denver Botanic Gardens, which sounded perfect because the weather was still looking a little sketchy and the gardens offer a lot of fantastic indoor and outdoor options so we could be flexible. Even better, their amazing staff was able to fast-track our permit application (BIG shoutout to their staff!). And the folks at Planet Bluegrass were flexible in letting us stop by to make use of their gorgeous rock wall.

So while this wasn’t the original engagement session we had envisioned, I think it turned out so much better than our first plan! The weather cooperated and we had a community of amazing friendors who helped us out of a tight spot.

Heather and Chris, we had such a great time hanging out with you two and are endlessly grateful for your patience and flexibility with the last-minute changes. July can’t come soon enough!
