There’s a lot you can say about Colorado, but you certainly can’t say the weather here is boring. We saw clouds, a little bit of sun popping out, light drizzle, torrential downpour, snow flurries, and even graupel at Alliy and Phil’s University of Denver wedding on Saturday. But I was most impressed by the couple’s attitudes through the entire day. They never once balked at any of our photo suggestions, which is the kind of adventurous spirit that makes a wedding memorable.
Rather than the conventional dress-hanging-in-window photo, we featured Alliy’s gown on a balcony in the impressive atrium at the Fritz Knoebel Event Center. And while the girls put on their dresses and touched up their makeup, the guys goofed about in fluffy monogrammed robes drinking beer. Don’t worry, they did eventually put their tuxes on for the wedding, though I’m sure more than a few of them would have been perfectly comfortable in the robes all night.
A cold wind blew us to the chapel, where Alliy and Phil exchanged their vows in front of friends and family during a ceremony presided over by Phil’s dad. After the ceremony, the newlyweds agreed to every photo request we had, both inside and outside. We made particular use of the breathtaking stained glass windows in Evans Chapel.
The reception was so much fun (and included a surprise song from the groom to his new bride) that I’m surprised Alliy and Phil agreed to follow us outside for some nighttime photos. Once again, though, their willingness to trust us paid off when we asked them to run out into the middle of a busy street in the rain in the dark. Thankfully, we all came through unscathed and with some pretty amazing photos. A big thanks to the couple and all of the wonderful vendors who made this day possible!
Alliy and Phil, thank you so much for allowing us to be a part of your kick-ass University of Denver wedding. Congratulations to you both!
